In July 2025, the Solid State Technology Council (JEDEC) released the latest LPDDR6 standard JESD209-6, which aims to significantly improve memory speed and efficiency and is suitable for a variety of applications including mobile devices and artificial intelligence. JEDEC said the new standard represents a major advancement in memory technology that delivers higher performance, greater energy efficiency and greater security.
Recently, Samsung announced the specifications of the new LPDDR6 in an official document. It will be built using 12-nanometer process technology, with a speed of 10.7Gbps, and more I/O channels to maximize bandwidth. It is very suitable for data-intensive mobile applications, edge computing and AI work execution.
Samsung said that the new LPDDR6 also has a dynamic power management system that can intelligently adjust power consumption according to work execution. Compared with LPDDR5X, the energy efficiency is improved by about 21%, which means that the device can obtain the same bandwidth and speed while reducing power consumption by 1/5. At the same time, Samsung has also introduced enhanced security mechanisms to protect data integrity, extending its application scope from the mobile field to industrial and mission-critical AI environments. With its scalable cross-platform architecture and environmentally friendly design, LPDDR6 strikes a strong balance between performance, energy saving, and reliability and will become an essential memory solution for future smart systems.
According to Samsung, the rate of LPDDR6 will be further increased to 14Gbps. It is expected that Samsung will announce more details of LPDDR6 at CES 2026 in January 2026.
