In April this year, retail sales excluding automobile sales increased by 0.8% year-on-year to 3.3 billion yuan. Retail sales of food and beverages turned from decline to rise, up 1.2% year-on-year to 947 million yuan.

As for online sales, it accounts for 12.6% of the total retail sales; after excluding automobile sales, it accounts for 14.8%, which is both smaller than the previous month. Computers and telecommunications equipment are still the largest sector, but online sales have slightly decreased month-on-month.

Looking at various major fields, the sales of computer and telecommunications equipment were the strongest, with a year-on-year increase of 14.8%; followed by watch and jewelry sales, with a year-on-year increase of 12.9%; the majority of other fields were growth, but the remaining growth areas were single-digit growth.

Supported by strong sales of computers and telecommunications equipment, watches and jewelry, Singapore's retail sales in April totaled 3.9 billion yuan, up 0.3% year-on-year, up the second consecutive month, but the increase narrowed compared with the previous month.

On the other hand, gas stations fell 10.6% year-on-year; clothing and footwear also fell 10.3% year-on-year, becoming the two most serious areas of decline for the second consecutive month, and the decline expanded.

The latest retail sales data released by the Singapore Bureau of Statistics on Thursday (June 5) showed that seasonally adjusted retail sales also rose 0.3% month-on-month, reversing the previous month's decline.
