Do you miss your time as a player?
"I keep in close contact with the players every day! They always ask me whether it is better to be a player or a coach. I always answer that nothing is better than being a player. But as a coach, when you feel that the whole team is behind you, all the staff are united, the fans are supporting you, the club is united and achieves success... that feeling is unparalleled."
What is the ideal player in your mind like?
"Those players who can make their own decisions on the court without your reminder and can play steadily at the level you expect every day."
is a coincidence? You, Emery, Ilaura...Why are there so many Basque coaches in the Premier League?
"We don't know, we will see if more Basque coaches will appear here in the next few years, but it's true that we live in a culture of passion for football, people have a very high awareness of football and invest a lot of time in it. I think all Basque people share some common values that are very suitable for being a coach."
Why do you think there are so many Spanish players in the Premier League and there are very few English players in La Liga?
"This is a very good question...I think it has a lot to do with adaptability. Maybe because British players have had the best environment and the best leagues for years, they never felt the need to go to other leagues to seek development, whether for competitive or economic reasons."
Do you know Xavi Alonso and Guardiola very well and who do you feel like you are closer to?
"I have a lot of similarities with them, first of all, because we both played in the same position, and I know both of them very well, and I played with Alonso. I have known Pep since I was 15 and worked with him for four years. I have a deep understanding of their way of playing, their football philosophy, their vision, and their behavior."
So who do you think you are more similar to?
"I don't like comparison. Although their ideas are similar, they are very different in execution methods, and I also have my own style."
