In an interview, Fulham boss Shahid Khan talked about the future of head coach Marco Silva and his views on the Premier League hosting games overseas.
What are your thoughts on working with Marco Silva and whether he is in the club's long-term plans? His contract expires at the end of this season.
He's been great. I really like him, not only as a person but as a head football coach. There's no doubt in my mind that he's in our long-term plans.
La Liga and Serie A have recently been allowed to hold leagues overseas (the United States and Australia). What do you think of the possibility of the Premier League playing overseas? Especially considering you're also the owner of the Jacksonville Jaguars, an NFL team that already has a lot of experience in this area.
Why do we (NFL) do this? Because it's a very American-centric sport. It's a huge cultural phenomenon in America that's saturated. To grow, we need to internationalize. But when you look at the Premier League, it's an international sport. As I said before, it is the most competitive league in the world right now.
So you think there is no need for the Premier League to follow the NFL's approach?
So I would question, what is the necessity of doing this? Wherever the competition is played, it has a large international following and is highly competitive. So I would really question its necessity. Look at the needs of the NFL and the needs of the Premier League, they are two different things.
