Newcastle United officially announced the appointment of Ross Wilson as the club's sporting director. He will be responsible for the sports strategy, development and recruitment of the club's men's football team, women's football team and youth academy, and work closely with the club's football leadership and executive team.

Ross Wilson previously worked at Nottingham Forest and served as chief football officer. In order to acquire this experienced operational management talent, Newcastle triggered the release clause.

Before joining Nottingham Forest in 2023, Wilson was the sporting director of Glasgow Rangers, helping the team win the first league championship and Scottish Cup championship in ten years, and also helped the team reach the Europa League final.
