Newcastle announced the appointment of Adam Lawrence as the new U21 head coach and will officially take office on September 1.
Lawrence, 38, will join the Magpies Youth Training Camp from Manchester United. While at Manchester United, he served as head coach of the U18 echelon and led the team to win three championships in the 2023/24 season, including the Premier League regional and national championships and the Premier League Cup championship. Last season, Lawrence led his U18 team to second place in the Premier League Northern League and lost to final champion Aston Villa in the semi-finals of the Youth FA Cup, regretfully failed to enter the final.
In addition to serving as U18 head coach, Lawrence also serves as the head of player development (U13-U16), responsible for ensuring the smooth transition of young players to the scholarship stage. Prior to joining Manchester United, Lawrence worked at Charlton Athletics youth training camp for eight years, serving as coaching director and gained extensive experience in Millwall's youth training system. Lawrence will be assisted by Robbie Stockdale, who has been temporarily in charge of the U21 echelon since Di Amder O'Carol left office. "I feel very honored to be able to join Newcastle United and lead the U21 echelon. I have always believed in creating an environment where young players can grow, and the youth training camp has done a very good job in this. The club has a clear vision for development and I look forward to working with staff and players to help everyone take the next step in their journey."
Youth Training Director Steve Harper said: "We are very pleased to welcome Adam to Newcastle United as the new U21 head coach. We conducted a comprehensive recruitment process to ensure that the right people are found to develop and develop our young players. Adam is an excellent young coach whose results speak for themselves, but the results are only part of the results. Throughout his career, he has always prioritized the personal development of young players and will play a key role in supporting our talent access to the first team. I would also like to thank Robbie Stockdale and all the U21-related staff for their hard work and collaborative work in the recruitment process. ”
