After former Arsenal midfielder Thomas was charged with alleged rape, the British media Daily Telegraph compared the different practices of Premier League teams after players faced charges.

In February 2022, the police received a report of rape, and then Arsenal allowed Thomas to continue playing in the team for nearly three years, knowing that Thomas was under investigation. The Daily Telegraph contacted Arsenal on the day Thomas was arrested in 2022, but the club refused to comment.

In January 2022, after Manchester United player Mason Greenwood was arrested on relevant charges exposed on the Internet, Manchester United immediately suspended him, but retained his full salary. Finally, on February 2, 2023, allegations of attempted rape and personal injury against Greenwood were dismissed.

In August 2021, Benjamin Mendy was suspended from payroll by Manchester City on allegations of rape and sexual assault until he left the team in June 2023. But after all the charges were dropped, Mendy successfully received compensation for the vast majority of Manchester City's wage arrears through labor arbitration last year.
