You may have heard of cats repaying kindness, but owl repaying kindness is strange! A South African named Chris Pretorius met Uiltjie, a spotted osprey many years ago. After becoming familiar with Chris’s family, being attacked and injured, and taking care of him for a long time, Uiltjie actually visited his home every day from then on, and also brought food to his family, cat friends, and other injured owls!
Uiltjie: Come! I caught a mouse for you to eat!
Chris said that many people in South Africa regard owls as ominous animals, so people often hurt or even hunt them, and Uiltjie is no exception. When Chris went out one time, he found that it was very seriously injured and lying near the door of the house. Its right foot and hamstring were broken and it could not walk. Its wings and spine were also deformed due to the impact. Even the veterinarian recommended euthanasia, but Chris believed that it had the will to live, so he took it home and took good care of it. Miraculously, Uiltjie survived, and resumed short-term walking and flying in six months!
Because Uiltjie had stayed at Chris's home, he was still used to sleeping in the house during the day and going out to hunt at night. He became friends with the old cat, so after he was released into the wild, he often took care of his family. Come to mice as "gifts"! What even surprises Chris is that Uiltjie will also bring food to other owls and even birds rescued at home. Even if no prey is caught that day, it will first take the raw meat prepared by Chris to the injured animals to eat, just like these animals' little nanny!
Uiltjie (right): You are injured and need more nutrition. I will bring you delicious food! Owl on the left: Oh! Thank you!
Sometimes Uiltjie's kindness scares other birds~
Uiltjie: Meow, I brought a mouse to you. Old cat: I don’t eat raw, thank you!
Uiltjie: Wake up, Chris, it’s midnight snack time!
Chris thought that maybe Uiltjie had been helped and knew the fear of injury, so he became enthusiastic about his mission, bringing prey to owls that he thought "need to be taken care of." Interestingly, he would also bring mice to the old cat or Chris's family in the middle of the night. At present, Uiltjie has "successfully taken care of" dozens of various injured owls and eagle owl orphans. It is not an exaggeration to say that it is the "best nanny"!
Uiltjie: I will try my best to continue to complete my task!!
Any life is cute and emotional. Maybe there are some wild lives that we don't have much contact with, but it does not mean that they have no emotions!
