FuriosaAI, a new Korean AI chip creation, announced on the 22nd that it has reached a major contract with the LG AI research department, representing an important progress in the competition between FuriosaAI and NVIDIA (Nvidia). June Paik, chief executive officer of FuriosaAI, revealed that the AI chip RNGD (pronounced as Renegade) was approved by LG for seven months to drive LG's Exaone large language model.
FuriosaAI's RNGD chip performance and efficiency are excellent. LG AI Research Department recently launched the hybrid AI model platform EXAONE 4.0 to successfully integrate chips, which has better inference performance in traditional Nvidia GPUs and also reduces power consumption and total cost. The cooperation not only provides advanced AI solutions to LG's key areas such as electronics, finance, telecommunications and biotechnology, but also demonstrates generative AI applications, which are references to global enterprises in seeking sustainable and autonomous AI-based infrastructure.
FuriosaAI has rejected Meta Platforms Inc.'s purchase request, chose to remain independent, and focused on developing AI chip ecosystems to provide a more cost-effective and energy-efficient alternative than mainstream GPU solutions in the market. FuriosaAI’s cooperation with LG is undoubtedly an important step in challenging traditional AI chip manufacturers and promoting energy-efficient hardware for large-scale AI models.
In addition, FuriosaAI announced in June that it would cooperate with Korean AI company Upstage to optimize the integration of RNGD chips into the Upstage Solar LLM model to promote the autonomy of local AI basic facilities and demonstrate the important progress of FuriosaAI in promoting the ecological environment of the country's big model.
