For health, I ran back to my youth! Professor Cancer Reasons: Exercise cannot be overtime, so that physical and mental health can be relaxed at the same time

Guo Ruixiang, who was once the dean of the School of Management of NTU and now the director of the Creation Center of NTU, started from the first marathon in his life in 2011 and completed the 100th marathon in his life on January 1, 2021 this year!...

Guo Ruixiang, who was once the dean of the School of Management of NTU and now the director of the Creation Center of NTU, started from the first marathon in his life in 2011 and completed the 100th marathon in his life on January 1, 2021 this year!

Now, Professor Guo Ruixiang looks always energetic. In fact, he suffered from cancer and a major turn in his life in middle age. "We only know the importance of health after losing our health. We all face the life and death, and only know what we cherish the most... I thank God for giving me a little warning when I was forty. I even say that this four-centimeter tumor is actually a gift. I will learn to know how to drive, don't overwhelm, don't ignore the most important family, and don't care about your own health." Professor Guo Ruixiang wrote this passage in the book "Brave Being the Only Self: Life Management of National Taiwan University Professor Guo Ruixiang" that is deeply communicative.

In the new book "Life Second Song: Life Innovation of National Taiwan University Professor Guo Ruixiang" released last year, it also mentioned, "I like long-term running. I started to practice running for health. Later, I also found that when I was practicing with a group of friends, I could actually run and run back to my youth."

"VidaOrange "Life Report" specially visited Professor Guo Ruixiang. He heard him talked about many exquisite analysis of "sports life" and "work life", and shared it with you who may often be too eager to strengthen yourself and "speed up" in life together.

Shen Beyi, Strategy Director of "VidaOrange Life Orange" (hereinafter referred to as Shen): We often set a sports goal, and if we accidentally try to force ourselves too much?

National Taiwan University professor Guo Ruixiang (hereinafter referred to as Guo): You just want to treat "sports" as a project. Since it is a case and it takes time, you must let go of some other activities. Sports cannot be a tiered thrill program. You have let your work be so tired that you can't talk. If you go to the sports again, then you will have collapsed.

If you are planning to exercise at 7 o'clock tonight, and you will start to rest at 6 o'clock when you work; the same is true if you exercise in the morning, you will go to bed early the day before! So if you feel very tired, it is basically recommended not to exercise. It is an Educational Process. You will slowly control and adjust your time and work and exercise yourself. That exercise is a healthy exercise.

So sports cannot be something that you don’t change in your original life, but add more. It must take your time. You cannot regard it as another work project, it cannot be like working overtime.

Shen: This means that some standards of work must be lowered?

Guo: It cannot be said that it is to lower the work standard. In fact, there are two ways we should not lower the standards in our work. The first one is "you will start choosing important tasks". If there are some very insignificant things, just let go.

The second one is "you should act quickly", and your work efficiency will increase, because everyone's time is the same. What can you do with professionally being like others, and then you still have time to move? So I often feel that no one who can exercise will be weak. Many professional people can do things well and can also exercise, representing that high level of "self-discipline".

Shen: I once heard from the teacher about "pain learning". Can the teacher talk more about it?

Guo: "Sports" are similar to "work". The so-called "pain learning" can also be described as "challenge learning", that is, its essence is not "pain". Its essence is "challenge some things you think you may not be able to bear in the past, but you have a little desire to challenge, so under the encouragement of yourself and others, you do things that you dare not try in the past, and you think are difficult."

In this process, because it is a challenge, it may be a "mind" difficulty or a "physical" difficulty, but because of your determination, you know that if you don't do it, you will regret it, so you try it. During this process, of course, you have experienced the so-called "hard work" that you have never felt in a comfortable area in the past, but because you think this thing is intentional, and finally you complete it. This pain, this challenge, is a relief for you. You suddenly feel that you have a sense of accomplishment, so you will rejoice, how did you walk through that pain?

"Sports" is a way of relaxation

I think human nature, especially professionals, actually have this nature to accept challenges at work, but people cannot bear a single challenge at work every day, so sometimes they will transform, and he does similar things in terms of physical ability to move. But this is still slightly different from work. This is a physical challenge. The physical challenge is not the same as the mental challenge. The physical struggle, the body and mind actually affect each other. In that pain, you slowly strengthen your muscles and overcome your pain. Then in the end, you can rest, soak in soup, and discuss the process of just now with others, so your body is in pain. As a result, your mind is relaxed, and this is a "way to relax."

So when we work hard, in fact, "sports" is a way to release it. You must have different ways of moving. The first is that you have "personal movement". The release may be that you are strengthening your muscles for a goal, and you will have some initial sense of accomplishment.. The second one is "sports with others". Sweat with others. That is a sense of participation from a team, and that feels better.

Occasionally, you need to "sports with a group of people" for three months or six months, which may be to participate in a stunning activity, a Taipei marathon, or a single car island, which means more experience. We people just need this kind of exercise of varying degrees to be interesting because we are not professional players (laughs).

Dai Xiangwen, editor of "VidaOrange Life Orange", said: I also challenged the half horse of the Taipei Fubon Marathon a few years ago. I didn't know much about "speeding". At first, I followed the people in front of me and ran very hard for the last few kilometers. Later, although I forced myself to run the entire journey, my feet were injured for several days, so I would like to ask the teacher who has experienced horse racing to share with me something about "speeding".

Guo: There are actually two concepts here, one is "speed" and the other is "direction". "Direction" is more important than "speed". "Direction" actually means "goal", which means "what are you pursuing?" or "What does this game mean for you?" It means you "must do your best in this game", or "This game is just a pleasant running"?

Sometimes we don’t know the goal, so we are troublesome. Between fast and slow, it is actually a kind of artistic nature that you need to slowly remove. Some need to be fast and some need to be slow. When competing with Fubonma, why would you have problems with the people ahead? That is someone else's speed, not your speed. If you don't know where your current ability is usually trained, you follow others' speed, but your ability cannot keep up, then you will of course explode.

So I'm back again. Usually you need to know where your abilities are. Usually you need to do some different speed training so that you can know where your abilities are. So before the competition, you have already set the target speed. The same is true at work, time is never enough, so you have to distinguish between important and unimportant, or leave some things to others and do some things yourself, otherwise you will explode and get exhausted.

Many people have blind spots at work and even more blind spots when running. The main blind spot at work should be "seeking too much", which means that the goal is too high, but the positive people will have higher goals.

Direction is the goal, and speed is the method. Determine when to be fast and when to be slow. This is a directional target setting. If you decide to be fast, you need to have methods, exercise ability, and cultivate professional ability.

So running is not a bad run than you think.
